4.2 The Target Groups and Engagement
Each Regional Partner chose disadvantaged groups most important to their regional economies. In the SEEDA Region, to meet the needs of innovation within the GROW program the main disadvantaged group disabled people was excluded. Three other disadvantaged groups were chosen which matched existing target groups for under-represented groups both nationally and within the Region. To give the pilot some statistical credence a target number of twenty four people were identified with eight in each of the following categories: -
- Single parents, predominately women
- Black and ethnic communities
- Ex-offenders
A number of organisations working in the community were identified as potential referral points. These included a number of Enterprise Gateways, specifically those in areas with a high percentage of BEM residents; the OLASS project for ex-offenders run by Southampton City Council networking into the probation service; Women’s Wisdom that run the Empower project for women interested in enterprise.
